Asbestos

From London's Ghost Acres

A material prized mainly for its durability and fire-resistance. Health concerns in the 20th Century caused this material to be banned for nearly all applications in the 1980s and 1990s. However, prior to that period asbestos was used in the manufacture of a wide variety of consumer goods and construction materials where fire-resistance was an attractive quality.
